Two studies found that a photo was a strong predictor of imputed service occupation, implying that customers have preconceived notions about what a service provider should look like. Two studies confirmed that photo was a significant predictor of inferred service occupation, implying that consumers had visual appearance stereotypes about what a service provider should seem like. The most stereotypically appearing service provider in an employment was considerably less desired by respondents as a service provider than a less stereotypically appearing provider expressing a Duchenne (genuine) grin, which was a surprising discovery.
